I'm the Volunteer & Outreach Coordinator for Students Partnership Worldwide - a youth-led international development nonprofit here in Washington, DC. We recruit and train young people (ages 18-28) to serve as peer health educators in rural communities of sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia. Topics covered include adolescent sexual and reproductive health, HIV/AIDS, general health, sanitation, nutrition, hygiene, and some environmental work, as well. Volunteers live and work for 5-12 months with a national and/or local partner working closely with local community leaders and public schools.
