My name is Brian Hobbins. I am an Issues and Corporate Social Responsibility manager for Cargill, Inc in their Corporate Affairs department. (However, I'd like to state up front my participation is in a personal, rather than professional capacity). My CV also includes a B.A. in American Studies and Journalism, Ethics and Democracy from Notre Dame. After graduation, I felt a strongly about volunteering. I participated in the University's Alliance for Catcholic Education program, modeled after Teach for America. I first ventured into the for-profit world as a trader on Chicago's CBOT and CME as well as several other global exchanges (all accessed electronically). I ran my own franchised trading station before breaking off to try and start my own trading group. These experience taught me much about entrepreneurship, global markets, investment, political economy, development and the like. Now, I marry all these interests - social concerns, entrepreneurship, investment and development - in my participation on Social Edge and realted sites. I look forward to learning from all of you and hope to make a valuable contribution to your conversation.
