I'm developing a social enterprise called SKIL2. I've worked for over 25 years with non profits in Australia and Ireland. One thing that has always struck me is how basic the training and learning environment can be in many of the workplaces.
Essentially I want to create learning spaces that capture the informal learning in non profit workplaces - that provide people with a range of spaces to collaborate + communicate + reflect + develop on their work practice.
I want to create beautiful and practical learning spaces using a cloud of social media and learning technology. One online space where people in a non profit workplace can meet and work/learn together.
I want to rattle the cage and move people out of their comfort zones - so they can develop even better services for their clients.
I hope to work with non profits to open the options for learning in the workplace beyond the usual formal workshop training.
I already have a national Irish non profit willing to be the first SKIL2 guinea pig/partner. They are an amazing organisation that work with high needs homeless people north and south of this island. They deserve some kind of prize for taking the risk in this SKIL2 experiment - then again - they have always been on the cutting edge of service practice.
We'll see where 2008 takes me and SKIL2.
